Summary/Abstract: The sketch presents an interpretation of Adam Zagajewski's poem Eliade from the collection Canvas (Paris 1990). The Polish poet is also the translator of Eliade's diaries, which were published under the title Religion, Literature and Communism. An Emigrant's Diary (London 1990). The interpretation reveals the relationship between the poem and the diary and focuses on the figure of the Romanian religious studies scholar. The author of the sketch shows that Zagajewski distances himself from Eliade's views, he reveals the famous professor's attitude to the extermination of Jews. The Polish poet discusses with the Romanian scholar about human life and transcendence, Time and History. Zagajewski also recalls Cioran's sketch on Eliade and follows his ambivalent thoughts. In the poetic epic, written after the death of the famous religious scholar, there is a tension between respect, recognition and anathema.
