Summary/Abstract: Education is one of the fundamental tasks that museums have to deal with since they make their collections available to the public. The social role of these institutions, their cultural significance and impact on human development are issues that have interested not only historians and philosophers, but also educators, for whom encounters with culture and the arts constitute an important area of educational impact in the process of lifelong education. Among the first to present her vision of the museum in the context of aesthetic education and museum pedagogy in Poland was Irena Wojnar, who wrote many articles and books about the role and importance of museum institutions. Among them, a book with an intriguing and meaningful title seems to be of particular importance: The Museum or the duration of presence [Muzeum czyli trwanie obecności], which is explained by the author in the introduction, referring to Henri Bergson’s thoughts. This article, which is largely focused on the book, will be a preliminary analysis of the concept of the museum and the tasks of museum pedagogy in Wojnar’s theory and the writings of her selection. The aim of this analysis will be to reflect on the topicality of the duality of duration and changes in the understanding of Bergson’s ideas adopted by Wojnar in relation to selected problems of museum education. More generally, this article will be an attempt to address the question: What are the educational possibilities of the museum’s vision as “the duration of presence”.
