Summary/Abstract: The article discusses selected diagnoses on the crisis in the humanities. It concentrates on systemic issues related to the critical assessment of the relevance of the humanities to market realities as well as critical approaches to the humanities within the field itself. The freqenutly addressed problems faced by the members of academia are substantiated by sociological research and essayistic autoethnography. Problems of autonomy and engagement of the humanities are discussed in the context of Justyna Tabaszewska’s concept of subservient humanities presented in the work Humanistyka służebna. Negocjowanie pola i budowanie autonomii w dobie kryzysu [Subservient humanities. Mediating the field and building autonomy in times of crisis].
