Summary/Abstract: Oscillating between the pseudonyms B. (Barbu) Fundoianu and Benjamin Fondane, depending on the cultural-literary space to which he can be referred, Benjamin/Barbu Wechsler, undoubtedly, represents a writer with multiple identity masks, little discovered and explored by readers or literary critics, with prominent recoveries in literary studies after 2000, as his creations can always be subject to new interpretive approaches. B. Fundoianu is a writer assimilated by the French culture and who left Romania early, in 1923. One of his representative volumes is Priveliști. The present paper focuses on the reception of the writer in the Romanian criticism and literary history, B. Fundoianu being a writer placed on the border of several cultural-literary paradigms. Afterwards, we will focus on one of his poetic creations from the volume Priveliști, namely Herța, a text between two paradigms: traditionalism and avant-garde. The poem consists of many visual representations specific to traditionalism in appearance, but Fundoianu attempts to deconstruct and depoetize them. The poetic universe becomes closer to the avant-garde paradigm, at this point, dynamizing the reader's expectations. The paper will highlight the way in which the configuration of spaces from the poem Herța creates certain expectations of the readers, contradicted afterwards by multiple associations with radical, "unpoetic" images. B. Fundoianu thus revalues a traditional(ist) imagistic repertoire, with influences even under the empire of modernity (through symbolism/decadentism), an almost surrealist imagistic repertoire that captures, in essence, the avant-garde attitude and vision of the writer.
