Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I will focus on the analysis of lexical units drawn from Ion Costinescu`s Vocabularu romano-francesu [Romanian-French Vocabulary] (Bucharest, 1870), which are part of the medical field and which are included in the alphabetical section A of the dictionary. The identified lexical units will be classified by reference to the subfield they fall into (e.g. branches and specializations of medicine, anatomy and physiology, medical semiology and diseases, remedies, medicines, treatments, procedures and medical manipulations, medical instruments, etc.). In this way, through this approach, we will be able to accurately specify how many words in the medical field are included in the alphabetical section A, while also analyzing their lexicographic treatment. We will also surprise how many of them contain or do not contain information of a grammatical nature and domain marks, stylistic register, use, meaning exchange etc. We will be discuss the type of definition, as well as the issue of etymology. Last but not least, we will try to analyze how many of them still retain their shape today, how many are recorded in the current dictionaries (and with what form), by reference to dictionaries such as Dicţionarul explicativ al limbii române [The Explanatory Dictionary of the Romanian language], Micul Dicționar Academic [The little academic Dictionary] și Dicționarul limbii române [The Dictionary of the Romanian language]. First of all, however, we consider it absolutely necessary to we distinguish between terminology and lexicology, but also between terminology and lexicography and to we discuss about the relationship between them. Certainly, we will also have some rows dedicated to Costinescu’s dictionary, in terms of its historical and lexicographic importance.
