Summary/Abstract: The development of artificial intelligence (AI) must ensure human-centred and ethical operations, transparency and respect for fundamental rights. In addition to its obvious benefits, AI also entails a number of risks, such as opaque decision-making. Artificial intelligence technologies can pose new security risks for users when embedded in products and services. The aim of this paper is to present and analyse in detail the legal environment for AI in the European Union, with a particular focus on the principles and directives, as well as the current and possible future legal framework, the draft EU AI Act.
