Summary/Abstract: The Americans have a saying which, translated word for word, would go something like this: the measure of a man is the number of lives he has touched. I know, it's a cliché, but clichés often tell the truth. In a translation that perhaps better expresses the spirit of American speech, it would be said that the measure of a man is how much good he does, but not in a general, vague, impersonal way, but how much good he does in the concrete lives of others.
