Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on paintings created for an exhibition at ŻIH on the 10th anniversary of the ghetto uprising, in 1953 at the peak of socialist realism. The article will therefore question how socialist realism dealt with this insurrection. It will describe three paintings and their visual anomalies, offering a reflection about what a visual anomaly is in socialist realism. Three general questions will be raised through the three anomalies: the passivity/activity of Jews during the war, the visibility of Jews in the socialist society, and the violence of the insurgents. The article ends with general considerations about the genre of history painting at the time of socialist realism.
