Summary/Abstract: Andrzej Wajda's feature debut "Pokolenie" (1954) is a film on the verge of the memory of the Holocaust - when the ideological, rigid socialist realist scheme of telling the story of the ghetto uprising gives way to the need for a new story about the war, one that is in line with the memory of the generation of young debutants, which will result in a season of masterpieces in the films of the Polish School talking about the experience of the Warsaw Uprising. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in Wajda's film does not have the biographical quality of the novel by Bohdan Czeszko; it is present in the rights of an unlived foreign body. Wajda metaphorizes the historical concrete - which finds its trace in the subsequent versions of the screenplay, discreetly hiding the Jewish designation of the insurgents. In "Pokolenie", he also establishes strategies for telling the story of the Holocaust in Polish cinema - the view from the outside, from the Aryan side, with all the epistemological perturbations of choosing this perspective
