Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt at drawing an image of the military potential of North Korea at the turn of 1960s and 1970s in view of the reports of the Polish military attaché in Pyongyang. Whenever possible, information coming from the attaché was confronted with the knowledge acquired before. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as a country of specific characteristics, the essential part of which has been isolation from the external world, has been a challenge for researchers dealing with various aspects of its functioning. The article does not focus only on the military aspects, which make one of its three constitutive parts. The two remaining ones are equally important aspects of the military potential, such as the economic life of the country and the so-called everyday life of the Koreans under the Kim dynasty. These three aspecs: military, economic, and social, were important components of the image of DPRK that the authorities of Polish People’s Republic had. The article also tries to explain some mechanisms of exercising power and doing service in the strictly military structures of the Korean People’s Army.
