Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the knowledge of how Polish society perceives women’s crime and themselves, based on the publications of experts on the subject from the 19th and 20th centuries, the findings of the latest researchers and the results of their own research. The main hypothesis was the statement that society exhibits negative, based on stereotypes, social attitudes towards women’s crime and women as criminals. Therefore, reference was made first to criminological theories characterizing the profile of a woman. In addition, the reasons that motivate women to commit a crime were briefly discussed, as well as the difficult situation of finding a person in society after leaving prison walls. In the last part of the article, the author’s own research, carried out using a questionnaire, which confirmed that choosing a criminal path by a woman is associated with unpleasant consequences for her, such as stigmatization.
