Summary/Abstract: The present paper analyses - mostly, in a habermasian perspective - the complex relations existing between public sphere, private sphere, public opinion and civil society. Communist regimes have almost annihilated both private and public spheres, replacing them with distorted categories, such as: private life and, respectively, social framework. Post communist societies have slowly begun to recreate or to reinvent concomitantly public and private spheres. This process is thoroughly analysed, noticing the transition from a monolithic to a pluralistic society. One of the most spectacular changes is the free and plural expression of the public opinion. The public opinion is fluctuant and its fluxes often mirror in-depth social and attitudinal mutations. Changes in public and private spheres are interrelated. Transformations of the public sphere are reflected in the private sphere and in the personal opinions and these latter ones shape public opinion and public behaviours.
