Summary/Abstract: The author analyses Zdeněk Grmolec’s biographical novel Divoká bolest Viléma Mrštíka (The raging pain of Vilém Mrštík, 2010). First of all, he discusses its structure, which consists in a prologue, six chapters, and an epilogue, and the use of five narrators. He then offers analyses of scenes from the novels’ tableaux and also people from Vilém Mrštík’s (1863–1912) life, including his brother Alois (1861–1925), Zdenka Braunerová, his wife Božena, F. X. Šalda, Antonín Sova, and Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic. The article concludes with remarks on Mrštík’s literary works, particularly the novels Santa Lucia (1893) and Pohádka máje (A May-time fairy tale; periodical 1892; book form 1897) and the play Maryša (1894).
