Summary/Abstract: This essay surveys my professional collaboration and personal experience with Romeo Castellucci’s mise-en-scène of Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and Temporum di fine comoedia in a double performance at the Salzburger Festspiele 2022. I analyse the relationship of cosmic time and historical time, objective time and inner time in the performance. Time conditions man, man creates time and time evocates various themes and concepts, e.g. the cycle of the world, history and human relationships; the intimacy and the universal horizon, the beginning and the end of the world and life. I analyse these themes and concepts in relation to the Salzburg production of Béla Bartók’s and Carl Orff’s operas.
