Summary/Abstract: In this essay the author reflects on fifteen years’ experience of using the oral history method to research representations of the holocaust in the biographies of survivors, as part of their identity. At the same time she formulates her findings and insights from long-term research and observation in the milieu of Bratislava’s Jewish community. In particular, she traces the processes of identification with Jewishness, generationally shared experiences of Jewish identity, and simultaneously the processes tending outwards from the minority, towards the majority. She offers her own insights and interpretations of the development of this community from the 1990s to the present day.
