Summary/Abstract: The firearm collection of The History and Archaeology Museum of Piatra-Neamț contains a purse/saloon Derringer-type pistol (with the inventory number 3589), which came in the possession of the institution at the end of the 1970’s as a transfer from the County Inspectorate of the Internal Affairs Ministry, most probably as an effect of a confiscation or surrender. Made in 1905, the pistol stands out by its very small dimensions, its caliber (6 mm Flobert, rimfire system) and by the multiple markings/proof marks embossed on its left side (on the frame, breech and hammer), which certifies its provenience (Belgium), as well as the meticulousness of its testing and inspecting. It is possible that the pistol was produced for Manufrance, a mail order French company which obtained its products from third party producers. Even if it was made unusable by drilling a hole on its barrel and the conservation/restauration procedures did not exactly respect its mechanical specifications, the pistol is still a valuable piece, which offers precious information about the history of the firearms/firearms commerce from the Old Romanian Kingdom and, all in all, about the life from the end of La Belle Époque period.
