Three decades of memory. Memorial to the Victims of Communism and Resistance

Summary/Abstract: This year the Romanian public could participate in a series of events organized by the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and Resistance in collaboration with various institutional partners in several important cities of the country. The events mark the 30th anniversary of the Memorial's inception in the years after the 1989 Revolution. The emergence and development of the Memorial (which, in fact, represents an entire infrastructure comprising the Sighet Museum and the International Centre for Studies on Communism) are indelibly linked to the names of two great contemporary Romanian intellectuals and two strong civic consciences: Ana Blandiana and Romulus Rusan. Their tireless efforts gave meaning and consistency to the whole project and popularised its objectives not only in Romania but also abroad.
