Summary/Abstract: The main focus of this study is the reconstruction of the pre-1989 Czech literature depicting the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans and the questions of Czech guilt and responsibility. They are a taboo topic in most of the socialist period, but their sporadic appearances mark key moments in the creation of the collective memory about the recent past. The text analyses the main works of literature on the topic and the reappearing images and stereotypes of complicated interethnic relations in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. These texts are viewed as a symptomatic indicator of the overall situation of the Czech culture before 1989.
