The Transformations of Lithuanian Philosophy of Culture

Summary/Abstract: The article explores how the philosophy of culture and its ideological character have changed. In this context, a brief overview of Stasys Šalkauskis' idea of nationhood in his cultural philosophy is given. The article addresses Antanas Maceina's attempt to create a universal theory of philosophy of culture. The contemporary context of Lithuanian philosophy of culture is highlighted by examining the hermeneutics of Lithuanian culture philosophical ideas expressed by Arūnas Sverdiolas. Accordingly, Sverdiolas' concepts of Lithuanian philosophy of culture are compared with Leonid Donskis' concepts of modern philosophy of culture. The article also explores the thematic contexts of Tomas Kačerauskas' cultural phenomenology and Arvydas Šliogeris' theory of ontology in relation to philosophy of culture.
