Summary/Abstract: The man also seems disoriented in front of his own work, trying to find his image. It is interesting to follow the evolution of the portrait over time: from the abstract face of Byzantine iconography, to the face of realism, and the distorted one of the expressionism. With the face, it can be said, the investigation of the personality begins, up to evoking the relationship with the world and even penetrating the very intimacy of the human being. A specific identity is explored through the portrait; his expression evoking a certain inner tension. Through resemblance and presence, the moment and even the meaning of life, in which we see each other, the experiences, the states, the attitude and the demeanor, are recomposed. Portraits are subject to conventions that differ from one era to another, from one place to another.
