Summary/Abstract: Up until September 1919, the new eastern division of the Czechoslovak Army occupied the territory of Carpathian Ruthenia. The Carpathian Ruthenia Provincial Military Command was established in Uzhhorod. The soldiers were transferred to peaceful service and the housing and social security issues became extremely urgent. In order to solve the problem, the military headquarters deployed the army in schools and governmental buildings. The construction of residential houses in the largest cities of Carpathian Ruthenia was planned for the future. Soldiers were offered various benefits to attract them to the region. The most complex situation occurred in the period 1919–1921 when the economic crisis after the Great War continued and the region lacked suitable accommodations for the arriving soldiers. As late as 1924, the housing complexes in Uzhhorod, Mukachevo, and Khust were completed and helped to resolve the issue. The army also had a rich cultural life, including libraries, various courses, lectures, and film projections. It can be stated that by 1925 the social and cultural life of the Czechoslovak Army in Carpathian Ruthenia fully developed.
