Summary/Abstract: The aim of the current article is to examine the etymology of the word fúria in Portuguese, its origin, semantic changes and relation with the Greek mythological deities known as Erinyes or Furies. A comparison with other Portuguese words meaning anger is presented in order to distinguish the intensity of the emotion fúria expresses.
