Transylvanian Students and Graduates from Transylvania at the Universities of Košice and Trnava (Slovakia), Based on Dissertations and Bibliographies (18th Century)

Summary/Abstract: The universities of Trnava and Košice, Prešov in present-day Slovakia hosted students from all over Europe. In our contribution, we refer to the scholarly products from Transylvanian and Partium students represented by the examination theses or dissertations defended at a certain phase of study there in the 18th century. Being published in university printing houses, these works circulated and became evidence of the students' intellectual journey. The present research is based on several bibliographical works published in the last decades, the most important of which is the Bibliography of 18th century Slovak printing, documenting the existence of Transylvanian contributions published at the time of study at Slovak universities. The publication of these works in the printing houses of the time are witness of the scientific activity during their studies and gives them a definite place in Romanian historiography. They are a contribution to the history of education and evidence of a group of future intellectuals, some of whom were involved in the life of the Church, politics and the economy of Transylvania.
