Summary/Abstract: Prominent Ukrainian figure Avgustyn Voloshyn (1874‒1945) was an active participant in the critical social transformations in Central Europe. He reflected the political sentiments of his native land of Transcarpathia, closely monitored the actions of the Czechoslovak authorities and neighboring countries. This is evidenced by A. Voloshyn’s speeches in regional and foreign periodical press, which reflect the problematic aspects of the development of the whole region during 1918–1922.Avgustyn Voloshyn considered the voluntary entry of Subcarpathian Rus into Czechoslovakia as the one which had no alternative because the previous state (the Habsburg monarchy) had disintegrated. As an independent state, Hungary was not trusted because of its assimilation policy.Avgustyn Voloshyn considered Czechoslovak democracy an attainment of his native land. He described the course of the Czechoslovak leadership towards a unitary state as destructive. A. Voloshin defended the idea of joint autonomy in the administratively separated regions of Transcarpathia and Prešov. He called the Slovak-Ukrainian administrative border unfair and the demarcation line between these regions arbitrary.
