Summary/Abstract: The great potential of archaeological heritage for the development of sustainable cultural tourism is thwarted by its insufficient visibility to the general public. The desire to make archaeological heritage, particularly the archaeological landscapes of the Danube region, more visible, and therefore more attractive for its integration into the flows of sustainable tourism, is the backbone of the Danube’s Archaeological eLandscapes project. In this project, frames of reference have been developed for the presentation of archaeological heritage using digital technologies in the Danube region. This paper presents the process of the development of digital visualizations of three prehistoric sites in Croatia for the purpose of presenting and promoting heritage, along with the challenges the authors faced during the various stages of development – from site selection and consultations with the interested public (public involvement), to designing the visualizations, and the actual development of applications.
