Summary/Abstract: The aim of this contribution is to introduce and document, in as much context as possible, the history of teaching of the Hungarian language and the history of Hungarian philology at Czech universities in Prague and Brno. The article is based mainly on archive sources but also consultations with living contemporaries. In addition to a chronological presentation, the study also contains short biographies of the leading figures in the field and a list of existing literature dealing with this subject. Briefly treated are also some data pertaining to the history of teaching of the Hungarian language at the university in Bratislava and to the history of teaching other Finno-Ugric languages at universities in Prague and Brno.
