Supporting the Development of Motor Skills of Young Preschool Children in Terms of Preparation for Learning to Write – Examples of Good Practices

Summary/Abstract: At preschool age, there is rapid development of large and small motor skills, which play a significant role in the acquisition of skills related to self-care, as well as drawing or writing. The development of fine motor skills is not only drawing signs, but also taking care of the correct body posture, proper muscle tone and body feeling. These are the elements that should be considered when preparing children to read and write. In order to learn to write, a child should have a certain level of motor development, especially in the area of hand movements, and this is what this paper focuses on. The theoretical goal of the paper is to learn about the mechanisms, strategies and techniques that guarantee good preparation of a child’s reading and writing in the aspect of small motor skills, the empirical goal is to analyze the ways of preparing the studied child for reading and writing by supporting, improving small motor skills, while the practical goal is to apply the prepared games, activities and exercises in the education of preschoolers, as well as older children with reading and writing difficulties.
