Attitudes of Representatives of Selected Institutions Towards Accepting Convictsfor Volunteer Work

Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the problem of attitudes of employees of selected institutions accepting convicts for volunteer work towards convicts and their volunteer assistance. In addition to an introductory discussion of this issue, the results of the research on the (in)readiness of institutions to accept convicts for volunteer work are also presented. The research covers a wide territorial range and was carried out among 125 employees of institutions and centers where there is a possibility of volunteer working or the appropriate conditions are met to introduce such a possibility. Analysis of the data obtained allows us to conclude that the attitudes of those surveyed regarding the employment of convicts are characterized by a number of fears and a sense of threat. The majority of respondents are not ready to accept volunteer work by prisoners in direct contact with the wards. However, they stressed that convicts could perform cleaning or repair and construction work under the constant supervision of staff and with the consent of the facility’s wards.
