Summary/Abstract: The publication of the Apostolic Letter Antiquum ministerium, through which Pope Francis institutes the lay ministry of a catechist, presents the opportunity to study how the figure of the catechist has been treated in the Post-Council Directories of catechesis. From this framework and with an analytical-synthetic methodology, the article delves into the profile of the catechist as presented in the Directory for Catechesis (2020). The work highlights the vocation’s theological-ecclesial dimension and a catechist’s identity, including their functions in carrying out the catechesis that, at present, the new evangelizing stage of the Church demands. In this way, the study manifests the value and scope of the institution of the catechist ministry.
