Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the nature and function of Cyprian Norwid’s reception in Polish communities in the USA at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. Using selected press texts, an attempt was made to determine the extent of Norwid’s presence in the consciousness of elites leading the Polish diaspora overseas. Titles such as “Dziennik Chicagoski”, “Zgoda”, “Polak w Ameryce”, “Ameryka-Echo” and “Kurier Polski” have been reviewed, from which the traces of the presence of Norwid’s themes have been extracted. Several thematic areas emerge from the press material, relating both to the poet’s biography, his works, but also to various contexts reflecting tendencies towards a particular perception of the poet’s figure. Many of the examples discussed here reflect stereotypical opinions and associations developed by literary circles in Poland.
