Summary/Abstract: During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical staff were among the first to be thrustinto the situation of beholding such a gravely contagious and unpredictable disease.Thistestimonial essay presents events that unfolded during the first year of the COVID-19pandemic, as experienced by one of its front-line physicians. The testimony combinesnarrative and subjective descriptions of the experiences and feelings of the author and of thehospitalized patients in her department, as well as aspects of the doctor-patient relationshipand various other elements that emotionally impacted medical staff during this turbulentperiod that influenced (and still influences) our daily existence.
