Summary/Abstract: Author reviews the challenges and achievements in accommodating refugees with disabilities, focusing on the extensive field research in six countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey, Jordan, and Uganda. She points out that persons with disabilities constitute significant segment of migrant populations. Identifying them, especially in cases of persons with less visible disabilities, such as hearing impairments, intellectual, mental, and cognitive disabilities, may constitute a considerable challenge. The author insists on application of definitions of disability from Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and definitions from World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health ICF. She also points out the usefulness of Washington group questions for census relating to persons with disabilities as another tool for identifying migrants with disabilities. The author highlights the importance of cooperation with organizations of persons with disabilities. She presents some of the results of research from Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Uganda. The author also quotes extensively the jurisprudence of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well. She concludes that in spite of numerous challenges, a considerable progress has been achieved in accommodating refugees with disabilities, by pooling the global and local resources and development of partnerships with organizations of persons with disabilities.
