Themes of a Change to a New Era and New Aspects of Today’s Catechesis

Summary/Abstract: The Catechesis, as an indispensable part of the preaching of the Word, is facing new social, anthropological and methodological challenges. The new Directory for Catechesis, published in 2020 by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, is the most authoritative catechetical document of our time. In its themes, problems and aspects, it can be seen as a directory for a new era. We find new thematic elements such as the ecological crisis, original beauty, missionary conversion, an inclusive catechesis for migrants and digital culture as the new missionary continent. The Directory’s teaching enriches the inquiry into catechetical identity and leads us from the preaching catechist to the concept of the missionary disciple.
