Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the image of Romanians in the eyes of Hungarians in the era of Austro‑Hungarian dualism. Hungarian politicians tried to offer Romanians certain concessions through the Nationalities Law (1868). They believed that in this way they would succeed in turning the Romanians into loyal citizens of the Hungarian homeland. The image of Romanians was built according to this political project, which would fail in 1918.
