Summary/Abstract: Sitting on both banks of the “Criș River”, on the western border of Romania, Oradea has always been a bridge between Central Europe and South-Eastern Europe, an area of cultural-spiritual interference. The end of the 19th century brought the city a particular urban development, marked by the definitive shaping of the architectural personality. The city would benefit from the most modern architectural style at that time in Europe (Secession/Art Nouveau), which replaced the more austere Classical style. There is also a rapid increase in the population due to the influx of labor to the factories in Oradea. In the idea of a transport network linking the main points of the city to its outskirts became at the need. Initially, it was intended that rail transport in the city would be used to transport goods (raw materials and finished products, machinery and equipment) needed for the city’s industrial platforms. As for passenger transport, around 1870, it was limited to so-called omnibuses(carriages- covered carriages, with hypo traction, capable of carrying 8–10 people and luggage on the roof). A period followed in attempts is made to build hypo traction, then steam traction and finally a network of electric railway. Some of these projects have been successfully completed, others have not. The fact is that at March 1, 1906, in the evening, at 8 p.m., the first electric tramway in Oradea made its first trial run on the route between the present‑day ”Primăriei” and ”Independenței” streets
