Summary/Abstract: Determination is defined as the semantic relationship between determinable and determinate. In a complex sentence it is formally expressed by hypotactic conjunctions, and much less frequently by paratactic connections. This article focuses on these paratactic connections. The paper consists of three parts: The first part examines the causal relationship expressed by the conjunctions neboť, totiž, vždyť; for example in the sentence Dělalo mi to starosti, neboť jsem nikoho neměla. The second part explores the consequential relationship is expressed by conjunctions such as proto, tedy, tak, and tudíž; for example: Winky se bojí výšek, proto si celou dobu zakrývala obličej. The third and main section of the article focuses on how the clause sequence in a compound-complex sentence is expressed by paratactic determination and by a contact pair of paratactic and hypotactic connectives: punctuation.
