Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the two-year experience in campaign I have the right to know, I’m entitled to a library conducted by the Croatian Library Association. In 2008 Croatian Library Association launched its Strategy for library advocacy in order „to influence the perception of libraries in the Croatian society, which aims to be the knowledge society“. The Strategy focuses on values of library profession, free access to information, intellectual freedom, and lifelong learning, and includes a number of programs and activities, among which there is also the celebration of the National Library Day (November 11) and the campaign I have the right to know, I’m entitled to a library. The campaign aims to promote the role of libraries in the knowledge society, improve the access to information on both local and national level, promote strategic financing for libraries and establish or improve library services in Croatia. In the times when the economic crisis and political issues can endanger culture, education, and research, and lower already reached librarianship standards, Croatian Library Association considers it important to perform activities emphasizing the role of libraries in culture, education, and research. Librarians as advocates and promoters of libraries have the key role in the campaign I have the right to know, I’m entitled to a library, which, among other activities, comprises a series of workshops (held in Split, Sveti Martin na Muri, Velika Gorica, Osijek) organized for the representatives of the local authorities, especially in the counties and municipalities where library services do not meet library standards set by the Croatian Library Act. The workshops emphasize the importance of building and founding new libraries, and the importance of stabile financing for all types of libraries, which represent the basis of culture and education, and are open to every citizen, regardless of their age, economic, educational or social status.
