Reinsurance As A Strategic Management Capital Method

Summary/Abstract: Reinsurance is one of the main risk transfer tools, an instrument that allows insurers to balance and smoothen their results and to compete with the larger players in the market. In order to achieve the required solvency ratio, insurance companies could increase their capitalization by raising new capital or by reducing the risk by transferring part of it to reinsurers. Thus, reinsurance plays the role of a substitute for capital, and the purchase of reinsurance must reduce capital costs. It is purposely why we have chosen the topic to point practically applicable aspects of the benefits of reinsurance and its optimal levels for the capital adequacy and financial performance of insurance companies.
