Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the theoretical aspects of the concept of "innovation". The aim of the study is to analyze the conceptual significance of innovation and its specificity for achieving competitive results. In this regard, the scientific development traces the essence of the concept of "innovation" as a result of which an author's definition is derived. A classification analysis of innovations, in particular of innovation strategies and their specifics is made, as a result of which their growing importance is emphasized as an important element of the general management strategy, without which future competitive advantages could not be achieved.
