Summary/Abstract: The present work presents an incursion into Romanian poetry from the years when communism was being established in Romania, when Romanian culture underwent an unprecedented transformation. In the field of literature, poetry played an important role in changing people's mentalities. It became a persuasive mass discourse through which the new ideology was transmitted. Privacy and free expression disappeared, poetry became an instrument of propaganda. Emphasis is placed on the accessibility of poetry, on a fully denotative lyric that moves the reader and provokes him to action, to hatred of the class enemy and to the struggle to raise the working class under Party rule. Another aspect that marked poetry in early communism in Romania was narrative. Ballad poetry appealed to the public, especially as we were dealing with a semi-literate, naive and limited public who tasted such low literature. Beyond narrative, accessibility, friendly language and singability, it must be remembered that the stakes of communist poetry were to make a 'new man', so it made full use of manipulation. By banking on the impressionable reader, poetry made reference to hatred of the richer as well as the stranger.
