Summary/Abstract: The Romanian language came into contact with Italian language in several ways, but the most important remains the direct contact achieved through the Italians who came from the northern regions of Italy to settle in Romania. They reached Hunedoara Lands, in the area of the city of Hațeg, settling in several villages. The emigration of Italians to Romania became more consistent in the 19th century, when they came to Romanian land to work on the construction of railways or in forest exploitation. It is important to study the way in which the identity formation of this community in Țara Hațegului was achieved in relation to the majority population of Romanians, as the social and political contexts contributed to the decrease of the population of Italians and, sometimes, to the erasure of the national identity. Following the research carried out on the ground, but also the study and comparison of the surveys carried out in the Italian communities in Romania and, especially, in Țara Hațegului, we observe the fact that during the communist period, the Italians in Țara Hațegului did not have at their disposal the necessary contexts for communication in Italian, so that the dialect was spoken only in the family and in one's own household or at the meeting of ethnic groups that came from the same area of Italy. Currently, in Țara Hațegului there are still descendants of the first Italian communities established in the area, but they married Romanian citizens and formed mixed families, so the language was lost over time.
