EVALUATION OF TOURISM STAKEHOLDERS’ UNDERSTANDING OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MANAGAMENT: A RESEARCH FOR UZUNGOL

Summary/Abstract: Tourism, which is one of the most difficult sectors to manage as it develops, has become one of the most important business areas for countries. However, it does not seem possible to talk about sustainable tourism in touristic regions where the economic dimension is predominantly at the forefront and there is an overdependence on tourism. It is known that tourism stakeholders have a role in ensuring sustainable development in touristic destinations where negative impacts increase. As a matter of fact, in this study, qualitative research management was determined in order to make assessment of whether there is an understanding of sustainable tourism management in Uzungöl, where negative impacts are frequently mentioned due to the development of tourism, and in this context, interviews were conducted with 15 regional stakeholders and visuals of the region from different periods were also compared. In this direction, the data obtained through interviews were evaluated by applying descriptive analysis. According to the findings, it was seen that Uzungöl is far from sustainable tourism management understanding and it was determined that tourism strategies, making longterm plans, exhibiting joint management between stakeholders and giving priority to local people. As a result of the research, strategic recommendations based on sustainable development that the stakeholders of the region can implement in the long term have been developed in order for Uzungöl tourism to develop within the framework of the right management approach.
