Summary/Abstract: The article consists of a comparative analysis of the results of a survey of entrepreneurs (SMEs) re- garding proper insurance coverage in selected countries (G. Britain, France, Italy, Germany vs. Poland) with respect to: the adequacy of insurance on offer, knowledge of the scope of insurance products, price of products, and entrepreneurs’ expectations. The study also discusses the role and importance of in- surance products on offer to SMEs for the protection of their staff and business operations. In line with the aim of the study, the authors try to determine principles which should guide insur- ers in developing appropriate insurance for SMEs. They particularly indicate the necessity of covering the gap between current insurance products on offer for SMEs and their real risks they face, as well as the needs and expectations they have from insurance companies.
