Summary/Abstract: Paintings have a great place in having an idea about children. Art education not only guides us in understanding the emotions and thoughts of children, but also gives us information about the world of imagination. Differentiating pictures in each age group, the ability to draw pictures and recognize reality in children in the 6-12 grouping period develops depending on physiological characteristics. Accordingly, color perception, noticing color and distinguishing from each other are clearly seen. As the child's age grows, color preferences of children also differ according to age. Although the child in the grouping period realizes the reality and the environment, he uses the colors of his own imagination in terms of color preferences. The main purpose of this research is to examine the effects of Henri Matisse's work on the paintings of 4th grade primary school students in terms of color, and to evaluate which colors the students will choose when the black and white version of an artist's work is reflected among the students in the 9-12 age group in the grouping period. In the research, Henri Matisse's "Great Red Interior" was chosen in terms of color preferences and presented to the students in black and white before the application. The colors chosen by the students in their paintings; It was evaluated by comparing age, gender and students in different schools in the same age group. The method of this research is experimental model and the study group was handled in 2 separate groups. In the 1st group in the experimental groups, 40 minutes of lecture was given to 16 people, and in the 2nd group, which was the control group, the color preferences of 19 students were examined without giving any lectures. The study group of this research consists of 4th grade students studying in Kemal Yener Primary School in Sapanca district of Sakarya province in the 2021-2022 academic year and 4th grade students in Sapanca Primary School. A total of 35 students, 21 of whom were girls and 14 of whom were boys, were applied to the study group. As a result of the examinations on the color choices in the pictures, the conclusion part of the research was formed.
