Summary/Abstract: Directive 2014/17/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 February 2014 on credit agreements for consumers relating to residential immovable property, also known as “Mortgage Credit Directive” entered into the force on 20 March 2014. The Member States have two years for implementing the Directive that follows the goal of “the development of a more transparent and efficient credit market (…) promoting the development of cross-border activity and creating an internal market for credit agreements relating to residential immovable property”. By emphasising Directives provision on informing consumers as clients of banks and other credit institutions, the author questions critically the efficiency of these provisions with regard to the aimed goal.
