Summary/Abstract: In Turkish culture, it is very important to have children to ensure the continuation of the lineage. Couples who get married in Turks gain reputation and improve their lives when they have children. However, a woman does not go through easy processes to become a mother. The women’s pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum periods are separetely important stages. The woman and her baby in the postpartum period face with various dangers. In Turkish folk beliefs, it is believed that alkarisi will kill the postpartum woman and her baby by eating their liver. Alkarisi is a female being believed to be from the group of jinn. Turks resort to various methods to protect the puerperal and baby from evil spirits, such as alkarisi. In the study, information was given about the methods used by Turkish people to protect the puerperal and the baby from alkarisi.
