Summary/Abstract: The first mineral exploration activities were started in the Ottoman Empire, which strived to catch up with the growing economies after the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. The Ottoman Empire, which attached great importance to oil and coal in the said period, distributed privileges in order to use these resources efficiently. The main reason for sharing mining concessions with local and foreign entrepreneurs is the lack of knowledge, technology and capital of the Ottoman Empire. In this direction, especially Sultan II. The mineral exploration works initiated during the reign of Abdülhamid continued in regions such as Şarköy, Mürefte and Gaziköy throughout Thrace. In this study, petroleum and coal exploration and extraction processes in the relevant regions will be discussed and will be examined and evaluated in the light of archival documents.
