NECROPOLIS WITH STEĆAKS AND NIŠANS IN FALETIĆI

Summary/Abstract: The parish of Vrhbosna was formed in the Middle Ages, in the area of Sarajevo and Visoko plateau, covering the area of the upper course of the River Bosna and the basins of its tributaries Miljacka River, Željeznica and Zujevina rivers. With the arrival of the Ottomans and their troops, the area of Vrhbosna parish transforms into Bosansko krajište (Bosnian Frontier) and, the first time it appears under this name was in the letter of herzog (duke) Stjepan Vukčić Kosača, dated July 19th 1453. Bosansko krajište (Bosnian Frontier) marked the territory under the Ottoman Empire administration from the beginning of their permanent rule in the parish of Vrhbosna (1448) until the fall of the Kingdom of Bosnia and the establishment of the Bosnian Sanjak (1463). In the summary cadastral census from 1455, Faletići is listed as a devastated village with an income of 100 akche and represented the timar (a fief) of Muslim Hodja, while in the census from 1468 it is mentioned as a deserted village. In addition to the historical presentation, this work also covers the technical processing of stećaks and nišani (Islamic gravestones) in Faletići.
