Summary/Abstract: A retrospective review of the development of paper home decorations – paper cuttings – is submitted in the article. They have been taking a bright place in folk art of Ukraine from the late 19th century till nowadays. Earlier the peasants have made various decorations out of paper for own homes mainly before great holidays, ornamenting icon corner, stove, windows, walls, ceiling, shelves, etc. with traditional compositions. Ukrainian scholars started studying home paper decor in the late 19th century. They continue research is continued nowadays. The activation and decline of the paper cuttings development have depended on historical conditions, social trends, and also the activities of separate craftsmen and researchers during all periods. The paper cuttings have acquired an equal appreciation with the articles of other kinds of the Visual Arts in the artistic space of Ukraine during the last decades owing to the works of professional artists. At present Ukrainian paper cuttings are well-known not only among the compatriots but they are popular and estimated worldwide.
