Summary/Abstract: Changes are permanently taking place in the educational system with reference to curricular contents, didactic strategies, the evaluation process, information technologies, etc. These, in turn, generated changes on the activity of teaching staff in general, as well as on their professional training, in particular. The article reflects the context of today's situation regarding the need to abandon some stereotypes in the teaching-learning-evaluation process and the need to reconfigure the training and professional development of teaching staff. The text answers the questions what kind of teaching staff is required by modern society and is the today's teacher or graduate prepared to carry out the educational activities from the perspective of social challenges?
